Leseraum: We don't Embroider Cushions Here
The "Leseraum" series are spaces created to serve as both storytelling devices and places for rest. Central to this is the large mattress that acts as both floor and wall, forming a soft library where visitors are encouraged to sit, lie down, and immerse themselves.
"Leseraum: We Don’t Embroider Cushions Here" specifically explores themes related to textile work, gender roles, craftsmanship, and the impact of industrialization on these practices. This installation forms a circuit of ideas, presenting painted narratives and memories in a non-hierarchical manner. The stories within this piece reflect on identity, displacement, and belonging, offering a mosaic of personal and collective experiences.
Accompanying the Leseraum is the library of "Books with no Words." These soft fabric books archive unfinished works, tests, prototypes, and ideas, binding them into narratives without a single, definitive interpretation. Flipping through these books invites visitors to engage in self-interpretation and speculation, appealing to emotions and abstract states that resist clear-cut answers.
Visitors are invited to not only visually engage with the artwork but to physically interact with the space, fostering a deeper connection with the themes of intimacy and home that are woven throughout the Leseraum series.
